Perhaps I should have made myself more clear.

Yes, there is no Oracle 9i Express, but there is Oracle 9i Personal. To me, they are one and the same. I want to either install Oracle 9i Personal or Oracle 10g Express on the same box as the Oracle 10g Client.

Yes, the binaries will be in separate directories.

My real question involves the hardware requirements and configuration parameters of the host. How much memory is needed? What should the host configuration be? I am a Unix jockey and my knowledge of Microsoft is limited. I use PCs as a means to access Unix boxes and their database servers. Unlike Sybase where you can set the database server's maximum memory use, I am worried that the multiple Oracle processes will sucking up all the memory and then some, although Oracle 10g Express supposely limits itself to a maximum of 1GB of memory. The machine is question has only 1GB of memory and it has other critical applications on it (Toad, Rapid SQL, Oracle Migration Workbench, etc.). I may want to put Sybase SQL Anywhere on it instead of Oracle Express if the resource requirements are unreasonable. Any mention of Microsoft Access will be ignored. For the moment, I am exploring the alternatives. Received on Fri Feb 09 2007 - 08:38:21 CST
