No you didn't key it in ... at some point the OUI GUI probably showed you something that you didn't read carefully enough.

I have seen exactly that sequence before but don't recall the exact root cause.

At this point you have to decide if you can live with this directory structure. Symbolic link's ( /u01/app/oracle/product could go to /u01/app/oracle/oracle/product ) if you wish is one solution to make it look a little better.
