Jonathan, in the referenced page, I found the following passage:

"Efficiency

A couple of standard guidelines for writing SQL - eliminate early, aggregate before extending. So let’s apply them here."

I am very interested in some kind of formal guiding principles for writing SQL. Do you have any books, articles or web pages you could recommend?
