Thanks to all who responded. However, I am disappointed that no-one answered my question which was specifically the use of replication. Yes I know that it is possible to use CREATE TABLE AS SELECT * to copy tables from one database to another, but for 100+ GB table it will take a while, even when done with parallel option, and then I'll have to build indexes. The links provided by Daniel Morgan do not address the issue of migrating between hardware platforms. Upgrading to 10g is not an option at the moment, so use of transportable tablespaces isn't possible.
