Is this 32 bit client installed on the 64 bit server? I have no problems with 32 bit clients as old as 8.0.5 accessing my 64 bit 10g R2 database. The clients are configured the same as if the server were 32 bit.

Are you able to perform a ping from the client to the server? What about a tnsping? What kind of error message are you receiving? What does the server's listener log show?
