uninstalling old Oracle software and empty oracle homes question

We are currently running 9.2.0.5 EntEd on AIX5L. On both our test and production servers there are still 4 past installs of the older versions from previous upgrades. I opened a tar with Oracle to figure out the best way to remove the old software and followed their instructions. The question I have is that when I first ran the universal installer (OUI) It found an empty home directory. I removed it as well. Now I have the 4 old OS level directories and files. When I start up OUI and list the installations it only finds our current install. I was leary of just deleting the old OS directories and files, especially the one that showed up as empty. I think I should be able to just rm -rf those directories since they don't show up in the inventory screen of OUI. Does anyone know if I am correct in assuming this? I've opened another SR with Oracle asking them this same question but I am just not very patient with them sometimes, as it has been over a day and no answer yet.
thanks,
