The word "database" in SQL Server refers to an entirely different concept than does the word "database" in Oracle. If you understand the meaning of the word in both contexts you will realize that the capbilities of the two products are the same in this regard.

I would suggest you go to http://tahiti.oracle.com and begin reading the Oracle architecture and concepts manuals.
