At the reluctance of sounding like I am supporting XP Home....

If you find Oracle slower, then it is probably a configuration issue. Are you committing the same amount of memory to Oracle? Do you have the same number of disk volumes? Can you be sure that the only difference in the configuration and usage is one machine is running XP Home and the other is running XP Pro?
