Based on the numbers that Oracle publishes, it pretty much boils down to what you will be more comfortable with. RAC requires a more complex system. The systems and networking side of thing will require better tech and admins to deal with if you're using RAC. A relative newbie will be able to deal with a NUMA based solution much easier. The "cluster" is transparent on a Sunfire and something you have to manually nuture on the RAC side of things.
If you go with RAC, DO NOT skimp on the storage hardware. That will be your single remaining unavoidable point of failure in the cluster. It needs to be more robust and manageable than the rest of the system. Depending on how tolerant your app is to node failures, your server hardware can be nearly disposable.
