He's right. You need to know all the implications of nologging operations, they will bite with a standby. You may have to rebuild the standby any time you do anything that invalidates your backups. Perhaps you can get away with it this time by rebuilding indices properly in the primary.

This is the kind of thing that allows things to be better when you upgrade, but the additional features in the upgrade give more to trip over. Dataguard and RMAN eventually become the way to go.
