Check out the concept of "fault tree analysis". One doesn't allow a single point of failure in such a setup - anywhere. Have you ever monitored voltage and current coming up off of a generator when it fires up?
There is lag.
It needs to be buffered/conditioned - its not a straight feed into the server room.

it just ain't that simple.
