it's also important to understand what unsupported in that sense means.

When Oracle says everything older then 9.2 is unsupported or desupported it means, that if you run an older version and hit a bug that has not occured before or has never been fixed, oracle _may_ not provide a bugfix.

That's mainly about it.

In fact there is nothing wrong in running oracle 8i with the latest patchset when you have no problems. Even Version 7 is still widely used.

I know it is sometimes very disapointing to work with outdated software. But this is also true for SUNOS 2.8.
