Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> Re: Standby Server requirements in 10G
Hey Barry,
You can still run Data Guard in managed recovery mode by transferring logs manually
and having some job regularly recover the database .. even in 10g. I happen to run 2 standby
databases in 10g where one is in manged recovery and the other is in manual recovery.
The manual recovery is setup over a WAN because and I've hit some issues with network
timeouts etc that have not been pleasant.
There are some nice benefits with the "managed recovery" approach that
are worth investigating.
Specifically the ability to "switchover" from one standby to the
other is quite nice and makes the
switch clean...meaning the data guard processes take care of a lot of
the extra work... This also
assumes that you've used RMAN to create the standby...
A lot also depends on the level of protection that the databases are
in.
Bottom line is that there are pros and cons with either manual or
managed recovery, so if your
scripts work, use them... If the customer doesn't see the benefits of
managed recovery, then
you don't need to give them managed recovery.
