we meet in another kernel discussion. :)

Just curious: what are you referring to? How can you improve I/O by rebuilding kernel?

We can discuss about the advantages of a lighter kernel... a better compiled code for one's process architecture, a better paging (and memory in general) utilization, improved library load/unload time (especially on gentoo like distros)...

But I fear that without patching the kernel you won't achieve any I/O improvement by simply recompilying the kernel.

(and the discussion doesn't include the oracle support).
