Which is what I meant, but worded poorly - thanks for the clarification.

How many people out here that use Linux actually rebuilt their kernel for db (more general: IO) performance? That's where RH and Novell get their money from.

Oh - and the above is not true for Windows; that uses direct IO; default filesystem blocksize is of no importance. Which is 512byte on NTFS, iirc, for logical disks less than 128MB
