I'm not sure I understand clearly your question, but I think you might be missing the fact that the archived log files do not contain the same info as the redo log files. What's in the archived log files is usually not anymore in the redo log files. Both these sets of files are important, and the way to secure them is to multiplex them both (on hopefully-separate physical disks). Archived log files are often shipped real-time to a different location/server. That also ensures that the archived log files don't fill up a server disk too quickly, before you realized what happened.
