Yes, I probably live in a magical world, but most of the production systems I work
are packaged applications where many users are accessing the application which
behind the scene connects to database. Since different users are using the application,
it is quite difficult to rollback everyone's work to a previous point in time because of a single user error. If someone makes a mistake, it may be better to undo some transaction using log miner rather than flashbacking the entire database. I don't remember ever being called for a point in time recovery in production environment to correct a user error, Well, that could be the type of environment I have been working on for last 15+ years. I have not been working in the same group, I have to change my company 5+ times so I have exposure to many types of envrionments. Received on Tue May 17 2005 - 22:01:43 CDT
