There are a few reasons:

  1. I have been tasked with finding a tool that can be used across multiple databases: Oracle, IBM DB2, and MS SQL Server. But first and foremost, I want to make sure that it will work with Oracle. OEM obviously only works with Oracle.
  2. I could be wrong, but I don't think that OEM is in the same ballpark (as some of the other tools). Can OEM give a real-time look at the performance of a database and all of its parts (SGA, shared pool, etc.)? If there was a slowdown during off hours (e.g., 2:00a), can OEM show you what was happening at that time? If so, I must have missed that somehow.

I have used Quest Spotlight for about four years and it is a great tool. There is a console that you can put on your desktop that shows a summary of the whole system

Some of the things that you can see:
- how many users are connected and how many are active

Here is an example:

There are many other screens that you can drill down to if you need to find out more info.

Hope that answers your question. Received on Fri Apr 01 2005 - 11:58:24 CST
