I have a lot of notes to write up! It's been an interesting ride. In retrospect, it was probably a bit ambitious *starting* by wanting Linux working on a *laptop* -when we all know laptops are full of utterly proprietary stuff. When your laptop vendor proudly advertises "XXXX recommends Windows XP", you know you're in for a hard time.

As a result, I have been plunged into the depths of kernel rebuilding, and found it to be a remarkably pleasant and exhilerating experience. I have variously had audio, had no audio, had two audios simultaneously, had the audio I want, had the audio I wanted stop and start at random, and finally got it just the way I wanted it... but the best bit was that I enjoyed the tinkering to get it that way. These operating systems that just work out of the box are no fun whatsoever!!

Anyway... there is now only one PC left running Windows, and 8 others have made the transition, and this time they're not going back. And I feel quite good about it, and sort-of know what I'm on about. I figure anyone else fed up with MS stomping tactics might find my experiences of some use.

But as I say, there is a lot to write (and I was rather hoping the new site wouldn't be mentioned until at least it contained something worth downloading!! Ah well...).

Regards
HJR
