is there a possibility to install Oracle 8i/9i under SuSE 9.1, i also need the Apache 1.x which is included with Oracle. I have to connect the whole stuff to a 8.1.3 database. Is it better to take Oracle 9.i? I have installed the oraru9i.rpm from suse. I'v read in Google that it's wiser to use a system without JAVA.
If you are using a production system i highly recommend using SLES8.
See
http://www.suse.de/en/business/certifications/certified_software/oracle/
matrix.html
for certified systems with installation scripts.
If you want to use SuSE pro, you'd better use SuSE 9.0 (kernel 2.4).
The JAVA discussion is about not using any JAVA runtime libraries because Oracle uses it's own.
Always try to use the newest distribution. That means try to use: SLES8 and soon SLES9 (3rd quarter 2004) and Oracle 10g.
