Sorry,
I did do the IP stuff (forgot to report about it, it pings correct).
I tried putting the IP directly in the tnsname, didn't help either.
I noticed that you're using a 9.2 client and I'm using a 9.0.1 (not sure if that will matter).
I'm going to install the 10g client tomorrow
I'm running linux
