You missed out the bit about checking the IP address.

Point is, Jay, I showed you it's possible. So it's your configuration that's stuffed.

And since the instance itself is happy with the Listener, and since the tnsnames is workable on the server and the SAME tnsnames is not working on the client, I would hazzard a guess that it's your client-server connectivity that's stuffed, generally.

Try putting the IP addresss of the server directly into the client-side tnsnames.ora and see if that works.

Incidentally, did we establish what operating system this was?
