Migration question: 8 to 9i

Got a problem. Well, for me it looks like a problem but I think there's an easy way.

Got a server running 8.0.x on one NT4 server. Bought another server and loaded 9.2.x on Windows 2000. I want to migrate the database files from the 8 server to the 9i server. I've moved the files, but when I go to use the migration tool, it wants a database that is on-line (asking for the SSID). Is there a way I can migrate these tables w/o having to have a SSID online?

I mean, do I have to have both these machines on the network so the 9i can see the SSID of the old one? Will it move the data to the new server or actually upgrade the data and table definitions to the old one?

Or do I have to get the 8 PC, install 9i on it to migrate it, and then move the data to the new server?

Just wondering if anyone has ever experienced this.
