You are absolutely incorrect in your statements. If he can span data across tables ... whatever that is supposed to mean ... he can certainly span data across partitions which doesn't require writing a single line of code.

To say the EE and partitioning are excessive given the quantities of data to be stored ... billions of rows ... is equally incorrect.

I suspect Sybrand feels as I do that you don't understand the OP's question ... as I suspect we really don't either.

Until someone defines "table spanning" this is all pure speculation.
