rman backup to tape?

Hi ,

This is related to rman backup .
I am using 9.2.0.2 on linux itanium , and want to backup data by using rman.
Unfortunately , i was told that rman could not backup data directly to a tape device without additional softwares like legato . Is this true? Because of this , i first backup data to disk than transfer to tape but i dont have enough disk space for all the data. On my platform , legato has not released a version yet , it will be available at the end of q1 (may be) so i must find a way to backup data. Is it true that rman cant backup data directly to tape?
