Thank you for the information. Listener is now up and running. ORACLE_HOME/network/sample/listener.ora
was copied to the parent directory and edited.

I seam to have misdirected myself on the problem of not being able to connect over the network using SQL+. Adding an appropriate entry in
ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora
solved the problem.

The problem of netca crashing remains unresolved and is being set aside for now.
