Hello

I have been experimenting with oracle for a couple of months and have ended up with a reatively useful database called mondb.

The only thing that I am having trouble with is backup and recovery stuff, especially when I try to switch archive log mode on to perform hot backups.

I am performing OS backups but I want to get a good proper oracle backup and recoery strategy going. To do this I need to get oracle installed on another machine so my experimentation will not affect my work to date.

I can happily install oracle but what I would really like to do would be install just the oracle server software and then copy in all the database files from my OS backups.

This will include my control files and all my dbf files as well as

/etc/oratab

ORACLE_HOME/dbs/initmondb.ora
ORACLE_HOME/dbs/orapwmondb
ORACLE_HOME/dbs/spfilemondb.ora

Will I be able to do this? Received on Tue Mar 11 2003 - 03:58:28 CST
