  1. Since one of your connect attempts had been successful, i dont think anything is wrong in your TNSNAMES.ORA or LISTENER.ORA
  2. Normally PMON process in the Oracle instance contacts the LISTENER once every 1 minute and updates it with system info (like DISPATCHER addresses, load etc). All your 3 connect attempts were within 1 minute. first attempt - 06-AUG-2002 14:04:20 Second attempt - 06-AUG-2002 14:04:50 Third attempt - 06-AUG-2002 14:05:21

I think you had tried to connect immediately after starting your LISTENER.
So the first 2 connect attempts failed because the PMON has not yet registered Instance info with the listener. The third attempt had succeeded because by that time, the listener had registered the info.

By the way do you have a LISTENER.ORA file or are you using DYNAMIC SERVICE REGISTRATION ? Received on Wed Aug 07 2002 - 00:02:08 CDT
