Using a sqlnet v1 client with a sqlnet v2 or net 8 server

Does anyone know of a way to get SQLNET V1 client software to connect
to a V2 listener?  I know that they won't work directly with each
other.  Is there some gateway software that can make this happen or
has anyone used Oracle v7.2 as a pass through since 7.2 support both
V1 and V2?
