ORA-12545 error

Hi there,

I also have encountered the "famous" ORA-12545 error. I can see that are a lot of questions & responses on this matter, but unfortunatelly none of them seem to solve my problem. So I am running an Oracle 8.1.7 Server and I am trying to connect to this database from different machines with sqlplus. If I try to connect from the local network everything works fine, doesnt matter the OS. When I am trying to connect from a different network I obtain the "famous" error: ORA-12545. I have edited the tnsnames.ora file in order to know the database and the machine and made anything that I though necessary. When I try to tnsping from that machine I obtain the OK, even more if I created a java client to connect to the database from that machine everything worked fine again, but the sqlplus doesnt want to connect to this machine!!! Isn't it strange?

Anybody any clues?
