I would get Thomas Kyte's book Expert on-on-one Oracle. It has a wealth of information (1200 pages) and the early descriptions of transaction and isolation differences between databases will be important for someone coming from a Sybase background. This book is not for the beginner, but if you are well versed in Sybase you have had experience with a database and don't need instruction as to what a table etc. is.
