Dear all,

Does anyone know if there is possible to implement a hot standby database using different Unix plataforms ?

For example:

  1. An Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.6.3.0 production system runing on SUN Sparc E220 Solaris 2.6 with a Hot standby on a Intel Linux box.

2 ) An Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.6.3.0 production system   runing on COMPAQ ALPHA Server 1200 Tru64 4.0f with a Hot standby on   a Intel Linux box.

Iīm very interested in use Linux systems to implement backup/spare   Oracle Databases from multiple Unix systems (Solaris, Compaq, HP).

But I donīt know if it is possible. In another words, is possible to    apply archive logs on a Linux Oracle database from a different    plataform ? Does it make sense ? Or exists a backup/recovery    strategy/procedure to acomplish a multi-plataform standby database ?

   Any idea are welcome.

Any help/clue/information (links, drafts, docs, anything) would be greatly   appreciated.

  Thanks in advance.

  Best regards,

                      Randolpho - Unix SysAdmin
