Well, tell us more about your configuration like 1. Are you using any SM? If yes then which one? I am familiar with Legato and Alexandria. If you are using one of these then may be i can give you some tips.
Also, which tape libraray you are using.

2. If not then are you taking your backups on disk?

3. How long it is taking right now. Your DB size is not that big. If it is taking too long then certainly there is something wrong.

Give us more info whatever you think is relevant and you will get assisted by someone. In sort time i am going to test 30GB DB with Oracle8.0.5.1 with LEgato SM.
