Hi, Paul, you don't specify whether the NT services you have include the OracleService[sid] as well as the OracleStart[sid] service. The first one starts the instance and the 2nd one starts the database. If you don't have the second service (OracleStart[sid]), then use the Oradim80 utility to delete the sid and create it again specifying the startmode as auto. This is the only way I know of to create that 2nd service, which automatically starts the database up on boot. Please let me know if this solves your problem as I spent a weekend figuring it out on my system, and its the only option I came up with.
