Re: alert_sid.log doesn't work

Are you absolutely sure that you are looking at the right alert_sid.log? Try searching your entire file system for another file with the name alert*log. If your background_dump_dest is not $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/log then then look in the directory that is defined for that parameter.
