Argh!!!!

        Maybe I am too conservative but, (forgive me for shouting)

                     ALWAYS HAVE A UPS FOR ANY PRODUCTION RDBMS!

    Whenever you are working with an OS that buffers I/O -- all operating systems that are worthy of the name -- you run the risk of losing some data in the event of a power failure.
