For me, its a couple of things:

1. The "double dipping"; that is, I pay for ongoing maintenance and support BUT then when the new version comes out I have to pay for all the new features separately.
2. When I buy this stuff, I can never get a straight answer from an Oracle rep as to what is / is not included. They always talk in circles (as you described). I am thoroughly convinvce this is because they, (in general, there are exceptions) don't have a clue as to what they're talking about. If they even had a price sheet that listed these options out so I could see what they cost and make an informed decision I wouldn't mind so much.

Of course, if I actually saw that all the "features" were in fact extras, the cost of buying Oracle would change from "competitive with Informix, IBM, etc" per user to several hundred or even thousand dollars more per user. Received on Mon Mar 22 1999 - 14:29:30 CST
