ANALYZE on SYS / SYSTEM

Oracle 7.3.2.3 on Dec UNIX

I wonder if someone could advise me on whether or not it's a good idea to use the ANALYZE command against the SYS and SYSTEM schemas. I seem to remember that your not supposed to do this but I can't think why and I can't see any indication in the Server Admininistrators Guide one way or the other. The reason I ask is that someone has already done this on the server and it doesn't seem to have had an impact - I hope!
