sysdate alterations for y2k

Group:

We are interested in testing a new software package by changing the sysdate. On our solaris 2.6 servers, it is relatively simple to change the sysdate, you just change the Unix system date. (Be forewarned that if you happen to set the system date under Solaris to a date before any given account was created, that account will not be able to login! Including root!)

Our problem is we have four different groups on one of five projects, including two test groups and two development groups with approximately 20 oracle instances on our server. The server is a 4500, not in the 10000 class, so we cannot create domains. Besides, we only have 4 cpu's.

We would like to be able to alter sysdate on an instance by instance basis. Most of the logins are via sqlnet so, we cannot resort to setting the TZ environment variable. (If anybody would like a discussion of the abilities and limitations of TZ, let me know. We did a little research and found some interesting results)

There must be some way to change the value of TZ inside a running process after the process has started.

Does anybody know of a technique or even a product that we could use to alter the sysdate of one and only one oracle database instance out of several on a server?

Thanks!
