Thanks Maxim, I will take a look at this as at first glance it is what I need.

Ed - sorry, as you state I did not actually say much about what didn't work. What I meant is that the procedure never actually gets in to the cursor loop - the cursor returns no records. It appears that strTables is not resolved correctly when passing as a list of multiple comma separated table names.

Passing in 'TABLE1, TABLE2' also will not work as these are 2 separate tables, not one table called 'TABLE1, TABLE2' - this is the reason for the number of quotes so that I can pass 'TABLE1', 'TABLE2'.

You have been rather cryptic in your response if I may say so. I believe that I know exactly what my problem is, and how to acheive it. I would be interested in what you are hinting at though because I am now intrigued!!
