Hi Jim.
Thanks for your reply.
About the 'None of these are relevent to connecting to XE'.
That's what I thought, but I CAN logon using the database home page ONLY if I remove any restrictions on ZoneAlarm as far as cookies, web bugs, private headers, adverts, animations, popup/under and any kind of script. Keeping any one (1) of them in place prevents logon ( In that the home page simply returns to iself).
Now, XE runs on the loopback ( 127.0.0.1) which is in the trusted zone and shouldn't have any problem at all. I haven't changed any setting so all has it's default installation setting.
I am indeed talking about the database home page. As a beginner using Oracle I would obviously try that road and learn to walk first before I try to fly. I haven't tried a connection thru cmd line, wouldn't know how. And it would of course defeat the purpose of the XE gui at all wouldn't it? it's more or less for individuals like me XE is here.
I have added a expert rule to ZoneAlarm opening up any and every port to loopback, but to no avail.
The host being localhost ( 127.0.0.1) is in the trusted zone. Adding the host itself ( under it host name) to the trusted zone doesn't change a thing.
