Do the document.
The guides cover all possibilities. What you have to document (at least) is your choices and the reasons for them. And if your boss asks you to document more, then you just to it, right? It's his responsibility after all. I mean, it's bad enough that this is not done by a dba, but without a document detailing what was done, it's even worse.
