Oracle reorganized the installation CDs and installation process. Installing the base Oracle database software and creating the starter database can now be done with only 1 CD.
There are a number of conditions and prerequisites that need to be met before attempting the install. Some include operating system (version), hardware (memory) and connectivity. To have a successful install, you are expected to read and follow at least the quick-install manual for your operating system.
To get help here you should mention the version of Oracle (10g already has a release 2), the version of operating system, and the exact error message.
My guess is that you installed on a Windows XP Home laptop with no connection to the internet or any other network. The reasons I guess this:
