I think this statement is also a bold statement - yes ... most of the AIX
kernel structures are dynamic, meaning that you do not
have to rebuild the kernel and reboot when changing them. But that doesn't
mean you don't want to tune them !
If you enter smit(ty) and go to 'change/show characteristics of operation
system' there are some parameters you will want to alter -
most obvious one is of course max number of processes per user.
For database boxes with large amount of physical memory I also tend to
decrease 'maxperm of real mem' using /usr/samples/kernel/vmtune.
So - allthough a large amount of kernel parameters are dynamic (number of
semaphores, shared mem etc) this doesn't mean you don't need
to tune or alter any :-)
