OK, lets continue here in c.d.o.m., no more cross posting.
I am evaluating some development tools, like ibms free eclipse with its endless list of plugin-modules ...(UML, refactoring, multi language...) Lets remember, how many products disappeared from the middle of interest in the software market, like Dbase, Clipper, Lotus Symphony (1-2-3), Quattro Pro, QPro Windows, FoxPro, Paradox, Win Paradox, Win Write, WordPerfect, Win WordPerfect, Ami Pro, all Amiga/Atari 520/1040 Programs, Turbo-Basic/Pascal/C++/Prolog....,GFA Basic, Q&A Write)...
E.g. Q&A was the first NLP database (Natural Language Program), to form queries in natural language as: show me all names in database xy, who live in town new york and ...... if those programmmers would have been more sucessful in marketing, they perhaps could have replaced sql databases.....
Under this aspect it is possible to bring postgresql back into everyones eyes when to choose a industrial strength database. PostgreSQL can replace oracle in about 95% (my personal estmation) of all installations. Sure oracle has features, all other databases don't have. Its not the question "which is the better one", but "which database is sufficient for my needs". Same with LINUX. Yes, LINUX will do its job as desktop, database server, file server. Not as good as NT2000/XP, not as stable (gui unstable, kernel stable) as XP, but it works.
I am still looking for any hints....
tnx in advance, Guido Stepken
