Oracle Server 8.1.x with ODBC driver 7 V2.5???

Hi,

I am working for a huge international company and I am developing a databas application. The company uses Server version 8.1.6 but client version 7 V2.5. I wanted to switch to the client software 8.1.6 but they told me that the client software 8.1.x is not certified by their IT-appartment. I am asking myself: why do they use server version 8.1.x anyway?! I think there is high danger that this combination (Server 8.1.6 <-> Client 7 V2.5) may cause errors! I tested the client 8.1.6 and I also saw an increased performance.

Now my question: is there any official document that recommends the usage of client 8.1.6 with server 8.1.6 or even better warns of using old client-software with newer server versions?
