Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.misc -> Installation of Oracle 8.1.7 on SunOS 5.8 fails
Hi,
I have a problem with the installation of Oracle 8.1.7: after executing the script orainstRoot.sh and continuing with the 'Retry' button I get the error message:
-> 1. I am root, there are no errors, directories exist (user is oracle, group is oinstall (as recommended in 'installation guide'):
> id
uid=0(root) gid=1(other)
> ./orainstRoot.sh
Creating Oracle Inventory pointer file (/var/opt/oracle/oraInst.loc)
Changing groupname of /opt/oracle/oraInventory to oinstall.
> ls -al /var/opt/oracle/oraInst.loc
-rw-r--r-- 1 root other 59 Jun 20 15:11
/var/opt/oracle/oraInst.loc
> ls -al /opt/oracle/oraInventory
total 6
drwxrwxr-x 2 oracle oinstall 512 Jun 20 14:58 . drwxrwxr-x 4 oracle oinstall 512 Jun 20 14:59 .. -rw-rw-r-- 1 oracle oinstall 19 Jun 20 14:58 install.platform
-> 2. User oracle is member of 'oinstall' (primary) and 'dba' (secondary) as recommended in the 'installation guide'. I also tried to have 'oracle' only in the group 'dba', makes no difference.
> id
uid=18305(oracle) gid=201(oinstall)
> groups
oinstall dba
So what is my problem? Any hints?
Thank you in advance,
Charlie
