Dave, I think you have a linux firewall issue here. Try these 3 things:

  1. ping linuxpc.home.com:8000 from the windows machine.(You probably know this)
  2. Connect to the numeric address of the linux box instead of linuxpc.home.com:8000
  3. At the linux box, logged in as root, run nmap localhost.

This will show you what ports you have open. Unless you have no firewall at all, it's doubtful that port 8000 is open. I have several oracle/linux servers, none were easy to install... Received on Fri Apr 19 2002 - 22:12:31 CDT
