All,

I have recently installed 11i (11.5.5) on a linux machine that I have. This machine acts as the gateway and firewall to the outside world. I have the linux machine connected to a switch which has a windows PC connected to it. Prior to installing 11i I could search the internet from the win pc and ftp, etc to any available hosts.

The install of 11i went fine and I am basically on the last post install step, this includes logging into the web server which should initiate a jinitiator download. The problem that I am having is that the win PC will not connect to the oracle login webpage. The hostname/domain of the linux machine is linuxpc.home.com. I have added this entry to the host file on the win 2000 pc. I tried to go to linuxpc.home.com:8000 and it never finds the website. If I go to my linux box and enter linuxpc.home.com:8000 then I can connect to the oracle login page ! So, I'm not sure just where the problem lies. Is it with Oracle or with the linux machine ?

Any help/advice/insights would be greatly appreciated. Please note I am not a DBA so please keep that in mind when replying :-)

Thanks.
