According to OTN there's no version of Oracle currently supported on XP. But if you insist on loading 8i onto an XP machine I would offer the following advice:
Get the WinNT/2000 version. WinXP is based on the NT kernel, whereas Win98 is based on the Win9x kernel. If 8i makes any kernel level calls not supported you can run into problems. Since there are different versions for each kernel I hafta believe there are differences.
